LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering South Africa’s Gary Kirsten and Australia’s Justice Langer for the vacant role of national team head coach.
Kirsten has coached India, while Langer has previously coached Australia.
The national cricketing authority is apparently looking to secure a long-term contract for the next coach, as the Men in Green have been without a designated head coach since Grant Bradburn’s ouster following a poor ODI World Cup campaign last year.
Former allrounder Mohammad Hafeez briefly filled the position, acting as both team director and head coach for Pakistan’s tours of Australia and New Zealand.
However, Hafeez stepped down from his position last month, leaving the PCB racing to find an acceptable replacement.
Initially, the PCB was in talks with former Australian allrounder Shane Watson over the head coach position. However, negotiations broke down, with PCB president Mohsin Naqvi citing media leaks as a factor in Watson’s decision not to accept the offer.
