With temperatures reaching as high as 50°C on Sunday, Pakistanis are suffering as the current heatwave saturates many regions of the nation.
Lahore saw temperatures jump to 43°C with a humidity level of 17%, and several other cities saw temperatures far above 40°C, according to a statement from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD noted that the current heatwave in the province capital is probably going to last until May 27.
According to data from the Met Office, there is still extreme heat in various regions of the country. In Dadu and Moenjodaro, the temperature reached 50°C, while in Nawabshah, Sibi, and Turbat, it was 48°C; in Bahawalpur, it was 47°C, and in Mithi, it was 46°C.
In the meantime, the mercury reached 45°C in Dera Ismail Khan, Sargodha, and Nokundi, 43°C in Bannu and Jhelum, and 42°C in Sahiwal and Faisalabad.
Today’s high temperature in Karachi, the nation’s financial center, is 36°C, with a 50% humidity level.
Owais Hyder, a meteorologist, says that starting tomorrow, the city may have the hottest week of the year.
“There is a possibility of an increase in heat intensity in the megalopolis next wee” stated Hyder.
