According to Major General (retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the personal information of about 300,000 people who applied for the Hajj has appeared on the dark web.
These disclosures were made by the PTA chairman at a briefing on Friday for the Senate Standing Committee on IT, which is chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan.
He went on to say that a thorough investigation is required to determine the origins of these leaks. Rehman added that the Ministry of Interior has now started an official investigation, while the PTA had carried out an internal probe in 2022.
Senator Afnan Ullah Khan informed the committee during the briefing that information is taken from many organizations, aggregated, and then sold.
