According to Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik, the government has no plans to lift the ban on new household connections for indigenous gas, as he told the National Assembly on Thursday.
The minister responded to questions by saying that the country’s natural gas scarcity was the reason behind the moratorium’s implementation. However, he noted that the caretaker administration has approved the installation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) connections for residential consumption in new housing developments.
According to Malik, the natural gas reserves in Pakistan are gradually running out, with pipeline gas diminishing at a rate of roughly 7% to 8% annually. He made the observation that Pakistan depended on pipeline distribution, whereas gas was mainly delivered to consumers worldwide through LPG cylinders.
