LONDON: In reference to the far-right speakers’ threats against Muslims and other ethnic minorities and religions, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer denounced Saturday’s “Unite the Kingdom” demonstration in central London, stating that it left people feeling “more scared than they were before.”
Tommy Robinson, a far-right activist whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, organized a protest on Saturday that drew between 110,000 and 150,000 participants. A total of 24 persons were arrested for a variety of offenses, including affray, violent disorder, assault, and criminal damage, while 26 police officers were hurt, four of them had serious injuries. Openly hostile remarks were made about Muslims, Islam, and immigrant groups, encouraging violence against them.
“Plastic patriotism” is what the prime minister called it in an interview with Channel 4 News.
