Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Thursday that the joint statement following US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Muslim leaders is a historic move and that its actual execution is the next stage.
On the fringes of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump met with Shehbaz and other leaders of Muslim-majority countries to discuss the situation in Gaza and the broader Middle East. Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan were among the participants.
“You all have done an excellent job, which is commendable,” Trump said during the 50-minute conversation, praising their efforts and calling it an honor to meet Islamic leaders.
