LAHORE: On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that a comprehensive plan is being formulated to construct water reservoirs and enhance water management in all four provinces, as well as in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
His comments were made as Pakistan struggles with heavy monsoon rains that have caused flash floods, flooded dams, and swollen rivers. Since late June, over 840 people have been killed in Pakistan. India released more water from its dams this week due to the heavy rains, which caused the river flows in Punjab to rise downstream.
Flooding in the province claimed at least 22 lives, injured dozens more, and caused extensive damage.
