During a high-level meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev praised Pakistan for its efforts in fostering peace and stability in South Asia. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held talks at the Presidential Palace on Friday.
PM Shehbaz, who is in Azerbaijan on a two-day official visit to attend the country’s Victory Day celebrations, congratulated the government and people of Azerbaijan on the fifth anniversary of their historic Karabakh Liberation War victory against Armenia. He also lauded President Aliyev for signing the landmark peace agreement with Armenia earlier this year.
During the discussions, both leaders reviewed bilateral ties and agreed to expand cooperation in politics, trade, investment, energy, connectivity, and defense. PM Shehbaz invited President Aliyev to visit Pakistan, an invitation the Azerbaijani president accepted.
This visit marks PM Shehbaz’s third trip to Azerbaijan in 2025, following his official visit in February and participation in the 17th Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Summit in Khankendi in July. The meetings have reinforced strong and multi-faceted relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
