SLAMABAD: On July 30, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be present at Tehran for the inauguration of Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the incoming president of Iran.
Earlier this month, reformer Pezeshkian, a 69-year-old heart surgeon, emerged victorious in a runoff presidential election.
Following President Ebrahim Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash in May of this year, Iran held early presidential elections.
At her weekly news briefing on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said, “The prime minister will attend the ceremony at the invitation of the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.”
“The visit demonstrates the two nations’ dedication to enhancing bilateral cooperation and engagement at the leadership level.”Officials from 60 different nations have so far declared their willingness to attend President-elect Pezeshkian’s inauguration event, an Iranian official told IRNA.
According to the official, those in attendance include four presidents, twelve speakers from parliament, seven prime ministers, three vice presidents, and two deputy prime ministers.
PM Shehbaz had called President-elect Dr. Pezeshkian earlier on July 8 to congratulate him on his election.
The two leaders spoke over the phone about how to improve collaboration, especially in trade, business, and investment. They also spoke on how to strengthen their cooperation in order to maintain calm in the area.
He had stated in a post on his Instagram, “I look forward to working closely with President-elect Dr. Pezeshkian to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran bilateral ties and promote regional peace and stability.”
