LAHORE: Unofficial and unverified results from Tuesday’s Senate by-election indicate that Rana Sanaullah, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), won.
After PTI’s Ejaz Chaudhry was disqualified due to his conviction in the May 9 charges, the seat became vacant.
251 votes were cast from the 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. polling period at the Punjab Assembly. The counting process resulted in just one ballot being rejected. With an overwhelming advantage, Sanaullah easily crossed the threshold, needing 181 votes to win.
Salma Ejaz, the candidate for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), did not receive any votes because the opposition did not attend the polls.
