At a European Championship in the summer, the 25-year-old goalie from Portugal became the first to save three straight penalties.
With Porto, he had already set the record for most saved penalties during the Champions League group stage. He has also missed 36.36% of the penalties that have been thrown against him for both club and nation.
Because of this, the goalie poses a threat to a struggling Manchester United team on Thursday in the Europa League.
“We know United are not coming from good games, but we also know what Manchester United is,” Costa told the news.
“They are the biggest team in England in my opinion, a unique club that I have respected since I was a young child.
Costa describes Bruno Fernandes, his international teammate, as “one of the best” players in the world and “one to stop” at Estadio do Dragao, while United full-back Diogo Dalot is “like a brother” because the two grew up together at the Porto academy.
But why hasn’t Costa moved yet, given his connections to United and other teams?
“What I usually say is true: I will be delighted if I never left Porto, the football team I love and where I learnt to play, but we all know that.
