“Much like the holidays, Powerball brings people together to dream big and hope for a brighter future,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball official and Iowa Lottery CEO. “We hope this growing jackpot inspires excitement, joy, and goodwill to all.”
Historically, a Powerball jackpot has been claimed on Christmas Eve only once, in 2011. In addition, the prize has been won on Christmas Day four times: 1996, 2002, 2010, and 2013.
The odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9, while the odds of winning the jackpot stand at 1 in 292.2 million. Despite the long odds, Monday’s drawing produced nine $1 million winners, 28 $100,000 winners, and 107 $50,000 winners.
Powerball tickets sell for $2 each and are available in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Florida Lottery will host Wednesday’s drawing at 10:59 p.m. ET in Tallahassee. Furthermore, the event will be livestreamed on Powerball’s website for fans across the country.
