After deliberating for several days, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday ultimately designated Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Faisal Karim Kundi, two party loyalists, for the crucial governorships of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Saleem Haider, a supporter of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), is a native of Punjab’s Attock area and was previously a federal minister as well as the prime minister’s advisor for Pakistanis living abroad.
The politician also serves as the head of the Rawalpindi division of the party led by Bilawal.
Speaking to Geo News, the former minister stated that the PPP chairman personally told him the “good news” that he will be the next governor of Punjab.
He continued by saying that he was also informed that he will receive word by tonight regarding his appointment to the top position in Punjab.
Saleem is expected to succeed incumbent Governor Baligh Ur Rehman, a prominent figure in the ruling PML-N who took office on May 30, 2022, following the overthrow of the government led by former prime minister Imran Khan at the Center.
The News revealed last month that Chaudhry Riaz, Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, and senior politician Qamar Zaman Kaira were on the Bilawal-led party’s shortlist for the position.
