ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Following heated arguments over Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s public statements, tensions between coalition partners the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) drastically increased, according to a Tuesday report from The News.
A day earlier, PPP lawmakers staged walkouts from the Senate and National Assembly, demanding a formal apology. In response, PML-N ministers criticized Sindh’s governance record and rejected the demand.
As tensions between the governments of Sindh and Punjab increased, President Asif Ali Zardari intervened and called Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Karachi for urgent talks.
The president summoned the interior minister to Karachi right away and spoke with him over the phone about the continuing conflict between the Punjabi and Sindhi province governments.
