President Asif Ali Zardari has opted not to take a government salary due to the country’s economic woes.
The President Secretariat Press Wing issued a statement on Tuesday announcing his decision.
“He made this choice to promote smart financial management throughout the country. “The President believed it was critical not to burden the national exchequer and chose to forego his salary,” the statement stated.
A message from the President of Pakistan’s account on X, formerly Twitter, explained his plans to take the critical move.
“The purpose of President Asif Zardari’s decision is to encourage prudent financial management in the country,” he wrote in the post.
It further stated that the president has urged against burdening the national treasury, preferring not to receive a salary.
President Zardari, who was elected as the country’s 14th president by a large margin on March 9, took his oath as head of state the next day.
At the swearing-in ceremony held at Islamabad’s Aiwan-e-Sadr, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa gave the oath to the newly elected president.
