A coalition of progressive groups has asked US President Joe Biden and other Democratic Party officials not to accept endorsements or funds from a pro-Israel organization and its linked super PACs.
The “Reject AIPAC” coalition, which includes the congressional organization Justice Democrats and the Democratic Socialists of America, is targeting the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and its affiliates. AIPAC, a pro-Israel political action committee, and other groups have already spent millions of dollars on the 2024 US election cycle.
The groups’ effort coincides with an increasingly structured movement inside the Democratic Party denouncing Biden’s support for Israel. According to health professionals in Gaza, Israel’s military operations have killed more than 31,000 Palestinians, resulting in a humanitarian catastrophe.
“The coalition has been in the works for many months to bring together organizations that have recognized AIPAC’s destructive influence,” Ashik Siddique, co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, stated.
The Reject AIPAC alliance said on Monday that it is urging the entire Democratic Party to reject AIPAC’s support, noting that the organization receives millions of cash from individuals who also support Republican goals.
When asked for response, AIPAC stated that their sole basis for evaluating candidates from both parties is their position on enhancing the US-Israel connection.
