Following back-to-back protests led by overseas Pakistanis in the United States (US), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan distanced himself from the ongoing protests overseas, stating that his party had no involvement in the recent demonstrations outside the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB) headquarters.
“If overseas Pakistanis are making up something, that is their own decision,” Barrister Gohar told the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Saturday, following the hearing of the 190 million NCA scandal case against PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.
It is worth noting that many PTI activists from the abroad chapter protested outside the IMF and World Bank headquarters in Washington about suspected irregularities in Pakistan’s 2024 general elections.
Shahbaz Gill, former chief of staff to Prime Minister Khan, and Sajjad Burki, PTI spokesperson in the United States, attended yesterday’s rally.
According to The News, the “First Pakistan Global”-organized demonstration claimed that the PTI’s National Assembly seats were “reduced” to 90 from 180 in the general elections.
The protests attracted sharp criticism from Pakistan’s government, which was seeking another bailout package from the global lender to address the country’s economic troubles.
