ISLAMABAD: According to sources familiar with the situation, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday appointed Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the leader of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), as the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, the head of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), as the Senate’s counterpart.
The PTI’s parliamentary committee met and decided on the two names.
According to sources, senators have supported Abbas’s nomination for the same position in the upper house, while PTI MNAs have agreed to Achakzai’s appointment as the opposition leader in the lower house.
Following the agreement, tomorrow (Tuesday), the opposition will submit their names to the Senate Secretariat and the NA, respectively.
