Over 500 MPs and supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), founded by Imran Khan, were detained by Punjab police on Wednesday for staging protest demonstrations in various towns in violation of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
A day earlier, the founder of the PTI, who is presently serving numerous sentences in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, called for nationwide demonstrations to protect the independence of the judiciary.
Concurrently, the Punjab government led by the PML-N enforced Section 144, which prohibits public meetings in Mianwali, Bahawalpur, and Faisalabad.
The alerts state that there is a significant security risk because of the way law and order is currently organized, making it a “soft target” for criminal activity. Section 144 was imposed with the goal of averting public disturbance and guaranteeing the security of people and property within the areas.
