ISLAMABAD The leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh filed a case with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Friday, requesting the dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja and five additional commission members.

Under Articles 209(5) and (6) of the Constitution, MPA Muhammad Shabbir, Justice (retd) Noor ul Haq Qureshi, and PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh filed the suit.

They accused members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of violating their constitutional responsibilities, stealing the PTI’s mandate by manipulating the results of the general elections on February 8, and purposefully misrepresenting the rulings of the Supreme Court.

The case, filed by Barrister Ali Tahir, accused CEC and ECP officials of being involved in the pre-election, election day, and post-election processes. The plaintiffs claimed that the defendants’ actions had an impact on over 120 million votes and requested an investigation into their claims.

They claimed that in defaming the complainant’s party’s candidates as independents during the elections, the respondents violated the Supreme Court’s rulings and the spirit of the Constitution, weakening the nation’s democracy, which they are obligated to protect.

After the Supreme Court ruled on cases involving reserved seats, the complainants demanded that the respondent take immediate responsibility.

They argued that although the PTI mandate was being targeted by the ECP, the top court’s decision had revealed the poll commissioners’ unlawful and unconstitutional actions, which amounted to grave misconduct.
