ISLAMABAD Lawmaker Junaid Akbar resigned from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee on Saturday amid growing tensions among the party’s leadership.
His departure as PTI secretary general came a day after Omar Ayub, the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, announced more changes to the party’s organizational structure.
Subsequently, Sher Afzal Marwat made a resignation demand of PTI Senator Shibli Faraz, claiming that he was denied the opportunity to visit PTI founder Imran Khan, who was incarcerated.
Akbar has made the similar accusations, claiming that while it is forbidden for them to go see the PTI founder, “certain people” do so.
“They only tell us that the party’s current policy aligns with their interests, which are with each other.”
“These people, their families, and friends are the beneficiaries of all the decisions,” declared Akbar.
The congressman went on to state that he is unable to visit the PTI founder, who is presently detained in Adiala jail, and that he has no influence over party choices.
“PTI is my home and I am neither a part of any group nor will I be [in the future],” Akbar stated.
