Following the purported detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPs on Parliament House property, the opposition and the government on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution deciding to form a 16-person committee to handle house-related matters.
The resolution, presented by Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, asked for the formation of a parliamentary committee made up of MNAs from both the opposition and the treasury benches of the National Assembly (NAs) to debate, evaluate, and make recommendations on matters pertaining to the smooth operation of the legislature.
This occurred while Speaker Ayaz Sadiq oversaw the lower house meeting amid heightened political tensions brought on by the detention of multiple PTI legislators for allegedly breaking the recently passed Peaceful Assembly and Public Order laws.
