Raoof Hasan, the Central Information Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has requested a suo motu notice from the Supreme Court against Mohammad Zubair, the former leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), about the alleged “conspiracy” to overthrow the previous ruling party’s government.
The senior lawmaker, who recently broke away from the ruling PML-N, discussed the overthrow of the PTI-led government in 2022 in an interview with a TV channel, accusing Hasan of leading a “conspiracy” in that regard.
A vote of no confidence in the National Assembly, spearheaded by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), then-opposition parties, ousted PTI founder Imran Khan from the Prime Minister’s position.
Ever since, the erstwhile ruling party has persisted in accusing the PML-N and its allies of arranging to topple Khan’s administration with the help of former army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Speaking during a press conference in Islamabad, Hasan claimed that Zubair’s assertion supported Khan’s story.
“A notice would have been taken on the confessional statement if it was given in a civilised society,” claimed the leader of the PTI.
According to him, General (retd) Bajwa had gotten in touch with the coalition to overthrow the PTI administration, according to the former governor of Sindh, who was a member of the previous PDM alliance at the time the former PM was removed.
