LAHORE/RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers are protesting in various cities after the party’s demand for rallies against alleged cheating, manipulation of election results, and snatching of the party’s mandate in the February 8 polls.
On Sunday, PTI supporters and activists marched across the country, with demonstrations in Rawalpindi and protests in Karachi, Kandhkot, Tank, and other towns.
The news comes as the PTI, whose candidates ran as independents in the February 8 polls before joining the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), emerged as the single largest winning group in the general elections.
However, the party has made significant claims of rigging and election result manipulation by altering the Form 47s and has time.
Imran Khan, the PTI’s imprisoned founder, has even written to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to request an audit of the February 8 elections.
Meanwhile, in Lahore, police arrested numerous protesting PTI workers at GPO Chowk, as authorities deployed a large police force along Mall Road and other places to ensure law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.
In Karachi, police and Sindh Rangers men have been posted in front of the Korangi Deputy Commissioner’s office in preparation for a demonstration by PTI workers.
In Rawalpindi, PTI workers and police clashed when a demonstration gathering led by Seemabia Tahir was denied entry into the city via the Khanna Pul route.
