LAHORE — Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar has directed law enforcement agencies across the province to remain on high alert following the recent suicide attack in Islamabad that left 11 dead and 36 injured.
In a statement on Wednesday, the IGP confirmed that security has been significantly tightened at courts, judicial complexes, judges’ residences, and other sensitive sites, including projects involving Chinese nationals.
According to the Punjab Police, comprehensive security audits have been completed under the supervision of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). Search and sweep operations are being carried out on major routes and critical installations to ensure maximum safety.
IGP Usman Anwar revealed that a foolproof security plan is now in place for judges, bar association members, and court staff. New measures include a vehicle sticker system for entry into judicial complexes and daily search operations along routes used by judges.
Meanwhile, a high-level security meeting was held at the Islamabad District Courts Complex, attended by senior judges, including Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas, and District and Sessions Judges Nasir Javed Rana and Muhammad Yar Gondal.
Officials from the Special Branch and DIG Security briefed participants on current security arrangements. The meeting approved the installation of walk-through gates, scanners, and zigzag barriers at the court’s main entrance to control access more effectively.
To strengthen surveillance, authorities proposed deploying snipers on rooftops, while Special Branch personnel will monitor entry points and conduct vehicle checks. Additionally, lawyers will receive emergency preparedness training, and an ambulance will be stationed permanently outside the complex.
The police have also banned unnecessary mobile phone use among on-duty security staff to ensure full attention during operations.
Punjab Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting judicial institutions, Chinese projects, and all sensitive locations across the province amid the evolving security threats.
