Thanks in large part to the outstanding play of striker Joselu, Real Madrid defeated Getafe 2-0 to take the lead in La Liga.
After finishing a pivotal match, Los Blancos, led by coach Carlo Ancelotti, lead Girona by two points following their victory.
On loan from Espanyol, Joselu showed off his goal-scoring prowess by putting Real Madrid ahead in the first half and completing a deadly finish early in the second. “(Joselu) is doing everything he needs to stay here, he’s doing spectacularly,” Ancelotti said, praising the quality of the striker’s efforts.
Ancelotti has faith in the team’s drive and tenacity ahead of their Sunday matchup against Atletico Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.
The coach assured supporters that the team was prepared for the crucial point in the season, despite the difficulties had in overseeing the Getafe match.
There were some difficulties in the match against Getafe, as defender Antonio Rudiger hobbled off during the first half. Ancelotti is still upbeat about Rudiger’s prognosis but is aware of the challenges that lie ahead.
Joselu demonstrated the team’s collective mentality with his selfless play, passing to Vinicius rather than scoring a hat-trick. An additional level of complexity for Ancelotti’s team is that midfielder Tchouameni will miss the forthcoming match against Atletico due to a late-game booking.
Coach Jose Bordalas of Getafe acknowledged the difficulty of playing a side like Real Madrid in peak form, saying, “It was unfortunate to give up such an early goal, it did us a lot of good.”
