Rev. Billy Graham was recalled as “one of America’s greatest citizens and enduring heroes” during an unveiling ceremony for a statue in his honor at the United States Capitol on Thursday, May 16.
Speakers at the event were House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D), members of North Carolina’s congressional delegation, and Rev. Franklin Graham, Billy Graham’s son and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse. Singer Michael W. Smith also performed.
The unveiling of the statue “truly is a historic moment,” Johnson told News . He pointed out that only four people in US history had received three distinctions: a Congressional Gold Medal is laying in state after it.
