With the Malir and Lyari rivers overflowing, low-lying districts swamped, and hundreds of civilians rescued by the army, Rangers, and Rescue 1122 teams, Karachi has been pushed into crisis by the heavy rains that have fallen intermittently over the past two days.
Saadi Town and other residential areas in Scheme 33 were submerged as a result of Karachi’s dams overflowing due to the rainfall. Many residents were forced to leave as a result of the Malir and Lyari rivers reaching record-high water levels with major thoroughfares like the M-9 Motorway, Sohrab Goth, and Machar Colony being inundated.
Hundreds of people have been rescued by rescue teams with assistance from the Pakistan Army and Rangers. Eleven individuals, including women and children, were rescued from flooding in Saadi Town alone.
