Ronaldo Aims for 1,000 Career Goals
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo says he will not retire until he scores his 1,000th career goal.
The 40-year-old forward scored twice in Al-Nassr’s 3-0 win against Al Akhdoud on Saturday. This brought his total for club and country to 956 goals.
New Deal Keeps Him Playing
Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in 2022 and signed a new two-year contract last July. The deal keeps him playing beyond his 42nd birthday.
Speaking after winning the Best Middle East Player at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, he said:
“It’s hard to continue playing, but I am motivated. My passion is high, and I want to keep going. It doesn’t matter where I play, in the Middle East or Europe. I always enjoy football.”
Focus on Goals and Trophies
Ronaldo added: “You know my goal. I want to win trophies and reach 1,000 goals. I will reach that number for sure, if no injuries happen.”
Last month, in an interview with Piers Morgan, he said he planned to retire “soon” but admitted it would be emotional. “It will be tough, of course. I will probably cry,” he said.
Current Season Form
This season, Ronaldo has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances for Al-Nassr. The team leads the Saudi Pro League by four points.
Despite his 112 goals in 125 games for the club, Al-Nassr won only one trophy since his arrival – the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023.
Record-Breaking Career
Ronaldo holds the record for most goals for Portugal (143) and Real Madrid (450). He is also the only player to score 100+ goals for four clubs: Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr.
He announced in November that the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico will be his last international tournament. He captained Portugal to their first major men’s international trophy, winning Euro 2016 in France.
