The implementation of a large Ramazan relief package worth Rs7.49 billion at utility stores across the country has sparked interest, as officials prepare to roll out targeted subsidies on vital commodities beginning March 4.

According to Utility Stores authorities, the assistance package intends to reduce consumers’ financial burdens during the holy month of Ramadan by offering discounts on 19 fundamental commodities through targeted subsidies. These subsidized commodities include flour, sugar, ghee, cooking oil, rice, legumes, dates, besan (chickpea flour), milk, drinks, and spices.

However, officials have underlined that only recipients of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will be eligible for the targeted subsidy under the Ramazan scheme. General consumers will benefit from special discounted pricing on basic commodities.

The Ramazan Relief Package for 2024 will be available until Chaand Raat, giving consumers plenty of time to take advantage of the subsidized items.

Last year’s Ramazan package totaled Rs5 billion, indicating a huge increase in funding for this year’s relief activities. This extension demonstrates the government’s commitment to provide needed help to citizens during the holy month.

On the other hand, the caretaker administration increased petrol prices by Rs2.73 per liter on Thursday night, bringing the total to Rs275.62. According to a statement, the price of high-speed diesel has increased by Rs8.37 per liter and is now standing at Rs287.33 per litre.
