PESHAWAR: According to The News on Monday, police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have discovered a big timber scam worth Rs1.7 billion, and they have seized 2.3 million cubic feet of unlawfully felled wood.
140 officers and officials have been implicated in investigations; charge sheets and show cause notices have been drafted against them. Additionally, the provincial government has forwarded certain cases to the Anti-Corruption Department and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The Forestry Planning and Monitoring Circle (FP&MC), Peshawar, reported that the timber was taken from the Allai tehsil in Battagram as well as other locations. It further stated that as three more chemicals are currently being monitored, the number may increase even further.
Woodlots were monitored in accordance with the provincial cabinet’s directions.
