Sanam Javaid Khan, a lawmaker for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was taken into custody shortly after her bail request was granted by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday. The case involved arson on a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) office.

The PTI lawmaker, who was already detained, was taken into custody by the investigation police after she was charged with arson during the May 9 riots that broke out following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan in connection with a graft case.

After the case against her was filed at the Shadman police station, Sanam—who was once well-known as a party social media activist—will now be moved there.

After the attorneys’ arguments were concluded earlier today, the court revealed its reserved verdict.

a bail request made by Sanam in opposition to the Model Town police’s case about the party’s office burning led by Shehbaz Sharif.

The PTI’s imprisoned candidate declared that she would run against Lahore-based former National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq and PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz in the next poll on February 8. She filed in her nomination papers for the PP-150 provincial assembly seat on December 19. Additionally, she said that she would run for two National Assembly seats, NA-120 and NA-119.

For NA-119 and PP-150, she will compete against Maryam; for NA-120, she will face Sadiq.

But the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP) rejected her documents, a decision she appealed against the returning officer (RO) at the Lahore High Court (LHC) Appellate Tribunal.

However, the RO’s choice to reject Sanam’s nomination papers for every seat was supported by the tribunal.

Following that, the PTI lawmaker filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, which was granted. This allowed Sanam to run for office with other PTI officials including Parvez Elahi and Shuakat Basra.

After the Supreme Court’s ruling last Friday, she is now eligible to challenge polling from NA-119, NA-120, and PP-150.

Sanam is one of several PTI leaders and employees who have been detained for more than eight months in relation to the May 9 riots that started after PTI founder Imran Khan was arrested in a fraud case.

She was charged with several offenses, including as attacking the Corps Commander House in Lahore and setting fire to police vehicles.
