Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) is scheduled to embark on a three-day visit to Washington next month, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss key political, economic, and security issues, a government insider told AFP on Tuesday.
According to the source, who requested anonymity, Crown Prince Salman will arrive in Washington on November 17, and the official meeting with President Trump is planned for the following day. The upcoming visit comes at a significant moment, just days after a fragile ceasefire in Gaza was brokered by President Trump — a move that Saudi Arabia publicly praised as a step toward regional peace and stability.
Reports suggest that Saudi Arabia is seeking to strengthen its security partnership with the United States, particularly following Trump’s recent executive order guaranteeing US defense support for Qatar in case of external aggression. Analysts believe Riyadh hopes to secure similar assurances amid growing regional challenges.
This visit marks another chapter in the long-standing alliance between Saudi Arabia and the United States, which has endured for decades. Their partnership has traditionally centered around mutual interests — access to Saudi oil reserves in exchange for US military protection. Over time, the relationship has expanded to include cooperation in defense, technology, and counterterrorism.
The crown prince’s trip also follows President Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia in May, which was his first foreign tour after beginning his second term in office. During that visit, Trump received a lavish royal welcome, and both nations announced economic and defense agreements worth $600 billion. The deals reportedly spanned areas such as artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and security cooperation, reinforcing the strategic depth of their bilateral relations.
Beyond defense and trade, Saudi Arabia continues to play an active diplomatic role in the Middle East, especially regarding the Palestinian cause. The Kingdom has led several initiatives supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state. In July, Saudi Arabia co-hosted a United Nations conference with France focused on Palestinian statehood and peace efforts in the region.
In a significant show of unity last month, Riyadh and Washington issued the “New York Declaration,” which advocated for the creation of a Hamas-free Palestinian state. The declaration received widespread international backing, including support in a UN General Assembly vote, underscoring the two nations’ shared commitment to promoting regional peace and stability.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s upcoming visit to Washington is expected to further enhance Saudi-US relations, paving the way for deeper cooperation on global security, economic growth, and efforts toward lasting peace in the Middle East.
