Readers Swap cafes for Saunas
You can forget about quiet corners in bookshops or cosy cafés. A new book club in West Yorkshire is bringing readers hot and cold reading. Each month, the iglu Book Club meets in a Nordic sauna with a view of Hebden Bridge.
The Hot Topics and the Cold Plunge
Reading has been made more interesting by the rhythmic transition from sauna to cold water. This hot-and cold contrast, say members, makes the conversations more engaging than in a typical book club.
Shekina Rose, the organizer of this event said: “It is really special.” The body and mind feel amazing when you go from hot to cold.
The heated debates, she said, can make the sauna seem even hotter. Recent discussions about The Driver’s Seat, by Muriel Spark, sparked intense discussion. Discussions allow time for reflection and meditation on lighter days.
The Experimentation of Community
Rozie Kelly is the author of the book club and the host.Kelly stated that the results exceeded her expectations. The conversations are natural and add a special energy.
Healthy Activities and Health Benefits
The club is a great way to escape the daily stresses of life and improve your mental and physical health.
Jo Harris, a book-lover, said: “Combining saunas, cold plunges, and discussion of books makes it more enjoyable and refreshing.”
What It Does
The participants enjoy a balanced mix of mental stimulation, physical exercise, and relaxation. This unique combination of hot and cold therapies with vibrant book discussions creates an experience unlike any other.
