SC practice law ceased trend of CJPs’ like-minded benches: ex-SHCBA chief

Barrister Salahuddin asks PTI to rethink decision for opposing SC Practice and Procedure Act after reserved seats' verdict

Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed, the former president of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), praised the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act following the reserved seats verdict. The PTI was asked to reconsider its opposition to the law, which halted the trend of chief justices’ like-minded benches.

In an interview with Geo News on Sunday, Barrister Salahuddin supported the ruling of the Supreme Court in the case of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), which is supported by the PTI. He called the ruling a “good decision” that cleared the path for the equitable distribution of special seats for candidates who identify as women and minorities.

“Larger benches should be constituted to get the opinions of the majority of judges on crucial matters,” he declared.

The prominent attorney believed that the decision made by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to deny the PTI-SIC candidates who won the national poll on February 8th reserved seats went “beyond the Constitution.”

He believed that the top court corrected the ECP’s failure to establish a constitutional strategy to completely deprive PTI of its reserved seats.
