Due to recent press conferences criticizing the judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), independent senator Faisal Vawda and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Mustafa Kamal were given show-cause notices by the Supreme Court on Friday.
The top court has requested that both leaders appear before the bench at the upcoming session.
The hearing was presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, along with Justices Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Irfan Saadat Khan.
The letters were sent out during the hearing on the suo motu notice filed in response to Vawda’s news conference during which he attacked the justices of the IHC for their letter claiming that spy agencies were interfering with judicial matters and the citizenship of Justice Babar Sattar.
“Enough is enough; stop focusing on the institutions. During the press conference, the former head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had stated, “If there is any interference by institutions, then provide evidence and we will stand together [against it].”
Kamal spoke at a press conference the day after Vawda’s, urging the establishment of dual citizenship legislation in all institutions.
