The 54-year-old rapper who is now a recording entrepreneur was taken into custody by police on Monday at the Park Hyatt hotel in Manhattan, New York.
During his initial court appearance on Tuesday before US Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky, he entered a not guilty plea to three felony counts. He was then informed that he would be detained and denied bail.
This was true even though his attorneys had offered a $50 million bond, contingent on his being freed on bond and being placed under electronic monitoring at home. They declared that they would file an appeal against the bail denial.
Combs was charged in the 2008 indictment with torturing, intimidating, and coercing women “to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct” over a period of years.
According to the indictment, he is accused of drugging up and occasionally forcing male sex workers and female victims into drug-fueled, sometimes day-long sexual acts known as “Freak Offs”.
Outside the courtroom on Tuesday morning, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, declared that his client will enter a not guilty plea and that he would “fight like hell” to try to get his client out of detention.
