In light of current protests by a religious party and increased security concerns, the federal government has ordered the suspension of mobile internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The decision to halt mobile internet access in the twin cities was approved by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, according to a formal letter sent by the Ministry to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Friday night marked the start of the suspension, which will last indefinitely until further notice.
According to reports, officials have already suspended mobile internet connection in a number of Rawalpindi neighborhoods in an effort to uphold peace and order.
