After Sunday’s first session, O’Connor, ranked thirty-one in the world, had a comfortable 7-2 lead. However, on Monday, Selby made breaks of 112 and 91 to win three of the first four frames.
O’Connor lost one frame to a break of 57 in the 14th frame, and he sealed the deal two frames later.
The 40-year-old Selby made retirement suggestions earlier this month, stating that it was “maybe time to do something else” following his 10-8 defeat to Gary Wilson in the Tour Championship’s opening round.
Selby was eliminated in the first round for the first time since 2018, although he did lose in the world final the previous year.
According to what he said to news , “I will absolutely still review it [my future] because I can’t keep doing that because it makes me sick and gets me down mentally. I stopped myself from playing well when I had my chances.”
