ISLAMABAD: According to The News, Pakistan’s star player Shaheen Shah Afridi may not get to play in the two-match series against Bangladesh because of his alleged lack of cooperation during the T20 World Cup 2024.
Afridi will probably face disciplinary action after gaining a lot of attention for his alleged misbehavior during the World Cup. This could result in his expulsion from the forthcoming two-match series against Bangladesh.
Due to Afridi’s difficult behavior, the national selection committee—which is made up of coaches Mohammad Yousaf and Asad Shafiq as well as the support staff—is awaiting word on whether or not he will play in the series.
Notable incidents include his violent argument with Yousaf during a practice session and his failure to have team meetings prior to pivotal World Cup matches.
Even though Shaheen expressed regret to Yousaf, the incident was noted in reports that the team authorities, led by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, submitted.
According to The News, one of the coaching staff members attempted to downplay the issue that had erupted from the claims by claiming that it was just an ordinary incident.
“Everything that transpired throughout the World Cup campaign must be mentioned. The PCB chairman will make the final decision on the issue,” he stated.
While a single official opposes the removal of the series’ best striker, most officials think that accountability should be instituted to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“I would prefer to recommend that Shaheen’s NOC for overseas leagues be revoked. The PCB may choose to demote him from his A category contract.
