ISLAMABAD: On his late Saturday return from Singapore, Shahzaib Rind, the recently crowned World Karate Combat Light Heavyweight Champion, was greeted with heroism.
Warm applause and cheers from a large crowd welcomed him at Islamabad International Airport, including Secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination Nadeem Irshad Kayani, Additional Secretary Zahoor Ahmed, Deputy Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Shahid Islam, representatives of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, and former Deputy Mayor of Islamabad Zeeshan Ali Naqvi.
After a fierce battle on Wednesday in Singapore, Shahzaib defeated Brazilian fighter Luiz Victor Rocha to win the Karate Combat KC-49 Championship.
Being the first Pakistani to win a major world martial arts championship, he went undefeated throughout the competition.
