ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police announced on Tuesday that 462 social media accounts allegedly involved in propagating religious and ethnic intolerance online had been taken down.
The Islamabad Police spokesperson stated that the anti-extremism squad had identified 1,522 accounts involved in undesirable activities.
He stated that a letter was sent to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requesting the closure of the accounts. “Among the blocked accounts, 65 were involved in religious hatred and 47 in propaganda against the country while 350 were involved in spreading terrorism content,” added the official.
According to investigators, the remaining 1,060 accounts will be canceled soon. He claimed that preventing extremism helped to combat terrorism and improve city security.
“People are asked to refrain from such harmful behaviors on social media.
