Spotify has launched a new AI-driven feature called “prompted playlist” for premium users in the United States and Canada. The tool lets users create playlists based on their listening habits and specific commands.
From New Zealand to North America
The feature was first tested in New Zealand. Its U.S. and Canada rollout is part of Spotify’s ongoing push to expand AI features and attract more users to premium subscriptions from the free tier.
Users Take Control
“Listeners don’t just want Spotify to understand them. They want to actively shape their own experience,” said Molly Holder, Vice President of Product Personalization.
With prompted playlists, users guide the algorithm using their own words and intentions. Unlike earlier AI playlists, this feature allows users to set “rules” for the generated music. Playlists can be scheduled to refresh daily or weekly to keep the music current.
Pricing Update
The launch comes shortly after Spotify announced it would raise its U.S. premium subscription price by $1 to $12.99 per month. The increase also affects Estonia and Latvia starting in February.
