The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board has confirmed that its national team will continue the ongoing Pakistan tour despite some players expressing concerns over security.

Following Tuesday’s suicide bombing outside a court in Islamabad that killed 12 and injured 27, a few Sri Lankan players requested to return home. The SLC stated that any player wishing to leave will be replaced immediately to ensure the series proceeds uninterrupted. However, those who leave will face a formal review by the board after the tour.

The board assured the team that all safety measures are being strictly enforced in coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and relevant authorities. The SLC directed all players, support staff, and management to stay in Pakistan and continue the tour as scheduled.

The remainingPCB Chairman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi personally briefed the Sri Lankan team on enhanced security arrangements. The first ODI in Rawalpindi went ahead on Tuesday, with Pakistan winning by six runs, despite the Islamabad attack. Remaining matches are set for Thursday and Saturday in Rawalpindi.

High-level meetings between the Sri Lankan High Commissioner and Pakistani officials, including the Islamabad Police Chief and PCB representatives, reassured the visiting team about their safety. Both the Sri Lankan envoy and Pakistani ministers thanked the players for their commitment, calling them “state guests” and emphasizing their protection as a top priority.
