Following tensions between the previous Tory government and the EU, the prime minister has pledged to “reset” relations with Europe, however he has ruled out a return to the single market, customs union, or freedom of movement.
According to Downing Street, Sir Keir’s priorities would be to address economic barriers and implement a “broad-based security pact” with the union.
Speaking with people such as Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, he will state that in an era of increasing global volatility, it is critical that “like-minded countries cooperate more closely on it.
The prime minister declared prior to the conference that the UK is clearly stronger when it collaborates closely with its closest foreign allies. This is more crucial than ever because war, instability, and conflict are all threatening Europe.
“We will only be able to confront these difficulties by putting our combined weight behind them, which is why I am so keen to put the Brexit years behind us and develop a more realistic and adult engagement with the European Union.
