Babar Azam’s decision to step down as captain has the support of former Pakistan captain Younis Khan, who said that it will be “beneficial” for Azam.
Along with Muhammad Rizwan, a wicketkeeper-battler, and Fakhar Zaman, a left-hand batsman, the seasoned cricketer has suggested two more candidates for the position.
“I think it’s a mistake that in our culture we usually choose the biggest player to be the captain,” Younis added, suggesting Rizwan or Zaman.
On Tuesday, Babar made the announcement that he was quitting his position as white-ball captain. He stated that he wanted to concentrate on his playing career and personal development.
In March, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reappointed him as the captain of the national side for Twenty20 internationals (T20Is) and One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
