In May 2019, Steve Dymond, 63, was discovered deceased at his Portsmouth, Hampshire, home, seven days following his participation in the show.
An overdose of morphine combined with a cardiac ailment was the cause of death, according to the coroner.
After being suspected of cheating on his former fiancée Jane Callaghan, Mr. Dymond took a lie detector test for the TV show, and the audience “booed” him while the test was being filmed.
The episode was not shown after his passing, and the show was eventually canceled.
According to the earlier hearing at the inquest, Mr. Dymond had called ITV between 40 and 50 times in “desperate” attempts to be a guest on the show.
He had taken a room in his landlord Michelle Thaxter’s house after divorcing his spouse, she told the Winchester hearing, calling him “just a really, really nice guy”.
Mrs Thaxter said: “He said he had split up from his partner and he was staying in a hotel, and it was costing him a lot of money.”
She read a text message Mr. Dymond had received during the hearing, in which he claimed to have woken her and her son up after they had overdosed on March 31, expressing her disbelief and declaring, “It did not happen.”
