This week, Nicki Chapman, who is covering for Zoe Ball on Radio 2, broke down in tears while on the program.
“I told myself that I wouldn’t cry, and I had already done it once,” she remarked as she read aloud listener notes.
Wright, 69, passed away on Monday after hosting programs on Radio 1 and Radio 2 for more than 40 years.
This weekend, Liza Tarbuck will pay tribute with a special Sunday Love Songs program.
Jo Whiley, a different Radio 2 coworker, stated on Wednesday on Radio 4’s Today show that “he was a master of his art.
“He devoted his whole life to radio and all he cared about was making people happy,” she continued.
Whiley said it felt “very strange” to be hosting a memorial show to the broadcasting “legend” on Radio 2 on Tuesday night, considering that she had only met Wright “only days ago”.
She added on the Today show, “We were all crying and felt very sad. I hate talking about him in the past tense.”
Wright “was born to be in a studio,” as fellow former Radio 1 presenter Nicky Campbell said in a Today interview.
“His heart soared when he was on the air, and that was contagious.”
