The 47-year-old, who is officially blind, appears on several panel shows, including Have I Got News For You, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and QI.
He will be the first blind participant to compete on the competition, following in the footsteps of the first deaf contestant, Rose Ayling-Ellis, who won Strictly’s coveted glitterball trophy in 2021.
McCausland, who was born in Liverpool, has presented his own self-titled show on TV on Saturday mornings, as well as acting roles in EastEnders, Not Going Out, and the CBeebies show Me Too!
After working as a web developer and then in sales, his declining vision encouraged him to turn.
The actor and comedian lost his sight in his early twenties as a result of retinitis pigmentosa, a congenital eye illness that causes progressive retinal degeneration.
‘The worst kept secret.’
McCausland revealed his strict stint on TV’s This Morning, telling presenters Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle: “This is literally the worst kept secret in British television.”
