Seahawks Outlast Rams in NFC Title Thriller
The Seattle Seahawks punched their ticket to Super Bowl 60 with a dramatic 31 to 27 win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game. Playing at home, Seattle survived a fierce division rivalry that lived up to the hype from start to finish.
Quarterback Sam Darnold delivered one of the biggest performances of his career. He threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns, matching Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford drive for drive. Stafford also impressed with 374 passing yards and three scores, but Los Angeles came up short on the game’s biggest moment.
Late in the fourth quarter, with the Rams down by four, Stafford’s fourth down pass from the Seattle six yard line fell incomplete in the end zone. That stop proved decisive. Seattle’s defense then held firm again, leaving the Rams with too little time to mount one last comeback.
Seattle built early momentum with a Kenneth Walker III touchdown and took control after capitalizing on a muffed punt in the third quarter. The win sends the Seahawks to the Super Bowl in just the second season under head coach Mike Macdonald, and marks a remarkable turnaround for Darnold, now headed to the biggest game of his life with his fifth NFL team.
Patriots Survive Snowy Battle in Denver
Earlier in the day, the New England Patriots earned their Super Bowl spot with a gritty 10 to 7 victory over the Denver Broncos. The AFC Championship was played in brutal snow conditions that limited both offenses and turned the game into a test of discipline and patience.
Second year quarterback Drake Maye threw for only 86 yards, but his legs made the difference. Maye rushed for 65 yards and scored a key touchdown that kept New England alive. A smart fourth quarter field goal decision by head coach Mike Vrabel sealed the win.
Denver struggled after a strong opening drive. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham, starting due to Bo Nix’s injury, lost a fumble and threw a costly interception. Those mistakes proved too much to overcome in a low scoring game where every yard mattered.
This trip marks the Patriots’ 10th Super Bowl appearance this century and their first without Tom Brady and Bill Belichick since 1997.
Historic Super Bowl Matchup Ahead
Super Bowl 60 will feature a rematch of the classic 2015 showdown between these two franchises. It also brings a historic note, as Drake Maye becomes the youngest quarterback to start a Super Bowl since Dan Marino in 1985.
